What services does a periodontist provide?
A periodontist is a dental specialist dedicated to preventing, diagnosing, and treating periodontal (gum) disease.
Periodontists provide specialized treatments for problems involving the jawbones that support the teeth. In addition to periodontal treatments such as scaling and root planing and periodontal surgeries like gingivectomy and flap surgery, periodontists also offer cosmetic procedures like dental implants or crown lengthening.
At Chinook Dental Group, our Periodontist uses the latest technologies, to detect periodontal diseases in their earliest stages, allowing for more straightforward treatment.
What you need, when you need it
Dental implants provide a permanent solution for missing teeth, allowing for improved function and aesthetics while preserving the integrity of the surrounding natural teeth.
Periodontal disease treatment can help prevent and treat gum disease, which can lead to improved oral health and potentially reduce the risk of systemic health issues.
Gum grafts improve the appearance of your gums and protect your teeth from further damage by covering exposed roots and rebuilding lost tissue.
Bone grafts increase the volume of bone in the jaw, allowing for a stronger foundation for dental implants or other dental procedures.
Maintain the structural integrity of the jawbone following tooth loss, preserving the natural contours of the face and promoting successful implant placement in the future.
When should you see a periodontist?
If you have bleeding gums, unusual tooth sensitivity, or if your gums appear to be receding it may be time to contact our periodontist.
Similarly, even if you don’t notice any of the above symptoms, your dentist may refer you for specialized treatment involving gum disease or dental implant placement. A periodontist specializes in Periodontology, which largely deals with disorders related to gums and surrounding structures of the teeth.
Regular checkups by a periodontist can help assess any existing concerns that need to be addressed and prevent further complications from occurring.
